Kamini and Rajiv Sawhney
Kamini Sawhney is a curator with the Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation, housed in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya. She has helped bring to the public realm a series of exhibitions structured around the collection including a special focus on women's artists – 'Voicing a Presence'
Rajiv Sawhney is currently COO at NSRCEL, IIM Bangalore. He was the President Director at Hutchison 3 Indonesia, CEO and Managing Director at Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India Limited
Kamini is married to Rajiv. They don't have children.
"LivingMyPromise provides us a great structure for sharing what we have with people we may not otherwise have been able to reach out to. Life has been kind to us so far, and we would like to give back some of that to people who may not have had similar experiences. While it does help the next generation to have some share of their inheritance, that provides them a head-start in life, or a cushion against difficult times, it would be far more beneficial to allow them to forge their own paths building their own dreams and their own self-esteem.
So far we rarely look beyond our immediate circle when we seek to help. Philanthropy is not so widespread and most parents believe that providing financially for their children is a duty – the wider circle is not so relevant. It’s time we changed that vision in a country with such high levels of inequality. If we reach out to the larger community our lives can only get better.
